In 2019 students have been provided with the opportunity to represent the school at WRISSA events (Wellington Regional Intermediate School Sports Association). This included the following events: Athletics, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Netball, Rugby, Swimming, Touch Rugby and Volleyball. We also have students represent our school at the following Intermediate events: Aerobics, Softball, Table Tennis, Tennis and Water Polo.

On Wednesday afternoons, students participate in school wide sport, which involves them competing against other classes or in mixed teams in a variety of tabloid style games for example; Danish Rounders, 3-Pitch Softball, Coney Island. In Term 3, they also participate in the Community Sport Programme with a choice of activities such as: Adventure based sport, Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Fitness Classes at Les Mills, Fencing, Indoor Sport, Squash, Strike Bowling, Table Tennis, Tennis, Water Sport and Weird & Wacky Games. Many of these activities are off-site and do incur costs.

On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes, our classes are all involved in organised lunchtime sport. We see this as a very good way to keep our students occupied positively. It is also a great way for our classes to grow their class spirit by working together when playing against other classes in a variety of tabloid style games. Games that are usually played each year include; 3-Pitch Softball, Danish Rounders, Dodgeball and Benchball.

There are various other sports on offer for students during their time at Hutt Intermediate. Saturday Netball, Friday Touch Rugby, Wednesday Basketball and Water Polo, Thursday Badminton and Indoor Netball are just some of the sports our community offer during their respective seasons. All Hutt Intermediate students are offered the opportunity to be involved in these codes regardless of their ability.

Most years, Hutt Intermediate sends a team or 2 up to Tauranga to compete at the AIMS Games. This is an international Year 7 & 8 tournament which has now been running for 15 years. This is a wonderful opportunity for our top-level athletes to compete at the highest level in NZ for their age group. All students are welcome to trial for the team/s on offer each year.
